Firstly, what is vocaloid?
A software produce by Yamaha to create vocal of a song. It uses synthesizing technology with specially recorded vocals of voice actors or singers. To create a song, the user must input the melody and lyrics. A piano roll type interface is used to input the melody and the lyrics can be entered on each note. The software can change the stress of the pronunciations, add effects such as vibrato, or change the dynamics and tone of the voice. Each Vocaloid is sold as "a singer in a box" designed to act as a replacement for an actual singer. The software was originally only available in English and Japanese, but as of Vocaloid 3, Spanish, Chinese and Korean have been added.
(well I never tried to use the software myself.. :p)
I have been listening to vocaloid songs since mmm one and a half years ago! And are somewhat addicted to it.
Well for first time listener or people who rarely listen to vocaloid songs, they may find it awkward or even unbearable but, believe me, once you get used to it, it is actually not as bad as you think.
Let me tell you my own experience. I have known the vocaloids since long time ago, but well.. I was not very font of them. I used to say things like "what the hell are they singing? why would people even want to watch their concert.." "what virtual idol man?" and stuffs... Then since I'm curious, I tried playing 'Hatsune Miku: Project Diva' PSP game.. Guess what? NIGHTMARE! After playing the game, I couldn't sleep well that night. The reason? Haha, Miku's voice is shrieking in my ears and its cracking my head... I just couldn't stop it. Oh how I hated Miku at that time *Really sorry miku ｍ（．＿．）ｍ*

But then I continued playing & somewhat get used to it.. & started downloading some of her songs. Her song that I like the most at that time was 'Ame Nochi Sweet Drops' which was one of the songs playable in Project Diva. Well I used to mock on how she pronounce the english sentences in that song.. She pronounce "You're looking at this world" like "Yur lakking uaat this warld" dafuq?! (FYI at that time Miku is not designed for english lyrics thats why her pronounciation sucks)
Then after Project Diva 2nd comes out, I immendiately played the game & got addicted to many songs (I'm used to Miku's voice by then). I got addicted to 'Ai Kotoba' by Miku *aww its just too awesome* & 'Just be Friends' by Luka *awesome ones too* & many other songs...
Since that time onwards, I love listening to vocaloid songs.. My
daily intake.. :D I love to browse their songs in youtube & read the
english translation so that I could understand the meaning of the song.. While
some songs have stupid meaning I still listen to them coz the music
attracts me. Some songs sounds like "omg what's with this song
*next*" at first, I may become addicted to it later on bcoz it has caught
my attention & before I realize it, that song is stuck in my mind. This
happens with "Cantarella", "Romeo to Cinderella" (really
really love this song...), "Shinryoku kensha" & well many other..
Most
of the time I instantly fall for a song if the meaning of the song reflects sth
about myself or my experience. I feel like I'm closely related to that song...
But of course the music have to be acceptable too... Not the one that will
pierce through my ears. "Perfectionist Complex" , "Mukashi
Mukashi no Kyou no Boku" , "Nankai Renai" are perfect examples.
The vocaloids that I love the most currently is GUMI, her voice seems so real and her songs are awesome... Well I love you too Miku, please dun get jealous.. :p
I used to really love Kagamine Len bcoz his illustration are eye-soothing.. thanks to his fans who created those awesome artwork..
